A Leader Who Listens

"I am running because I want to be the first member of the council that residents think to turn to when they want their voices to matter."

Meet John

My wife and I could not be more pleased with our decision to move from Ballard to Shoreline 12 years ago. We are deeply grateful for our incredible neighbors, Shoreline’s beautiful parks, proximity to Seattle, and easy access to our stunning natural surroundings.

I hold a passionate belief that good government strives to engage its residents in open dialogue, one that actively listens and collaborates to solve problems that impact our lives. I believe that my professional background, education, and volunteer experiences in our community make me well suited to be an effective member of Shoreline’s City Council.

Volunteer Achievements in Shoreline and King County

In addition to initiating and facilitating the acquisition of land to be developed into Westminster Park, John chairs the Westminster Triangle Neighborhood Association Leadership Committee, administers the neighborhood website, and recently spearheaded a fundraising campaign that raised significant funds for neighborhood events.  John and his wife, Nicki, organized a pre-pandemic neighborhood Earth Day event and the neighborhood’s garden club. John is currently partnering with Parks department staff and neighborhood volunteers to restore the future site of Westminster Park. He has also volunteered his knowledge of public administration and sailing to develop a Strategic Plan and fundraise for Gratitude Sailing, a non-profit organization that provides free sailing outings on Puget Sound for individuals with disabilities of all ages. John was honored to be chosen by the City Council to co-write the pro statement for the recent Park improvement bond measure.  He is the current precinct committee officer for the 32nd Legislative District Democrats and an active member of Whole Washington.

A Professional Career in Service to Others

For 25 years as a licensed mental health professional, John has provided specialized assistance to thousands of King County’s most vulnerable citizens, including elderly adults in crisis, individuals with disabilities, people without homes, and foster children. Many of these individuals live in Shoreline.

As an Employee Assistance Program clinical account executive, John currently provides and manages services to over 60,000 employees in over 150 companies, non-profit organizations, small businesses, school districts, and municipalities in the Pacific Northwest.

Educated To Advocate

John’s educational background has provided him with excellent preparation to be an influential member of the City Council. He has Masters degrees in public administration and clinical psychology and a B.A. in political science. He is a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Administration and Public Affairs, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Most importantly, local government should never pander to special interests.

For this reason, I am the only candidate running for Shoreline City Council voluntarily limiting campaign contributions to $500.00 in aggregate rather than the $2,000.00 limit that is currently allowed for City Council campaigns.
